The “Iptanus Services Server Unreachable” Error

Opening the Main tab of the Iptanus File Upload plugin sometimes produces the error “Iptanus Services Server Unreachable”:

The Iptanus Services Server is unreachable error shown on the plugin's Main tab

It means the plugin cannot reach the Iptanus services server, which it uses for a few tasks such as checking for a newer version and fetching the Dropbox keys. The consequence that matters most is that Dropbox uploads stop working.

What causes it

  • Your web server is blocking outgoing requests to https://services2.iptanus.com.
  • The Iptanus server is blocking incoming requests from your domain.
  • PHP cannot open URLs with fopen, because the allow_url_fopen directive is switched off.

How to clear it

1. Go to the plugin’s Settings in the Dashboard, switch on Use Alternative Iptanus Server and save.

The Use Alternative Iptanus Server option in the plugin's Settings

2. Return to the Main tab and see whether the error has gone.

3. If it is still there, go back to Settings, set Post Method to cURL and save.

The Post Method option set to cURL

4. Check the Main tab once more.

That clears the error in most cases. If it survives both steps, something more particular is going on — please get in touch with us and we will look into it.

  1. Hi, I just experienced this problem. It was resolved through alternative server.
Can you promise this doesn’t happen again now that it’s been resolved once?

Iptanus server error prevented one page of the site to load complitely.
The site is operational only on january and it’s critical there is no downtime at that time.

    1. Hi, there is an option in the shortcode for deleting the local file after it has been transferred to Dropbox. Go to Interoperability / Dropbox and set Local File Action to delete.
