Iptanus File Upload and Elementor Page Builder

Since version 4.12.2, released on 28 December 2019, the Iptanus File Upload plugin works properly inside the Elementor page builder.

Elementor is one of the most widely used WordPress page builders, with millions of active installations.

Why Elementor needed special handling

Elementor handles posts, pages and widgets in its own way. The contents of a page are not kept in the post_content property of the WP_Post object, but in a custom post meta field in a proprietary format.

That caused two problems for the Iptanus File Upload plugin. A plugin shortcode — an upload form or a file viewer — could only be added to an Elementor page by typing it in by hand, and the shortcode composer did not work there, so shortcodes had to be configured by hand as well.

What version 4.12.2 changed

With version 4.12.2 installed, the following work as they do on any other page:

  • An uploader or file list instance can be added to an Elementor page from the plugin’s Main page in the Dashboard.
  • Plugin shortcodes can be added by hand using the Shortcode element of the Elementor designer.
  • Shortcodes that sit inside an Elementor page are listed on the plugin’s Main page like any other.
  • Those shortcodes can be edited with the shortcode composer.
  • The Iptanus File Upload Form Widget is switched off while Elementor is active, because Elementor supplies its own.

  1. Hi there. I installed the plugin and defined a Google Drive account as the file destination. Does anyone have a link or hints how to build a simple upload form in Elementor so that the videos are saved in Google Drive? Thank’s!

  2. Does anyone have a sample page using the pro version and Elementor that is not necessarily elaborate but shall we say has a “professional” appearance….you know, adding some of the pro feature with a good design? Thanks, Tom

  3. Mr Shaun Lawson

Super plugin, I have used this for about a year, so thank you.

However, did you know there is a bug in the new version 5.1.3 with WordPress 6.8.3 ?

The problem is the file uploader becomes invisible on the page the shortcode is embedded on.
I thought clearing cookies worked, but it didn’t.

I have gone back to the old version which is working fine.

    Would you have a solution?

    Thank you,
    Shaun
