Iptanus File Upload with NextGEN Gallery

This article explains how files uploaded with the Iptanus File Upload plugin can be added to NextGEN Gallery galleries.

NextGEN Gallery has been the most popular gallery plugin for WordPress since 2007, with more than 900,000 active installations and over 1.5 million downloads a year. Users have often asked for the two plugins to work together.

Since version 4.11.1, the Iptanus File Upload plugin can add uploaded files straight into NextGEN galleries. The options sit in the Interoperability section of the plugin’s shortcode composer:

The Interoperability tab of the shortcode composer, showing the NextGEN Gallery options

To use it, open the shortcode composer for an upload instance, go to the Interoperability tab and switch on Add Uploaded Files to NextGEN Gallery. The remaining NextGEN options on the right become available once it is on.

Available options

NGG Gallery ID
(int) The ID of the NextGEN gallery the files are added to. It defaults to 1.

NGG File Description
(string)(optional) A custom description for the files added to the gallery. It accepts dynamic variables such as the user ID, the username, or values the user entered in the upload form’s additional fields.

NGG File Alt Text
(string)(optional) A custom alt or title text for the files added to the gallery. It accepts the same dynamic variables.

NGG File Tags
(string)(optional) A comma-separated list of tags for the files added to the gallery. It accepts dynamic variables, including values the user entered in the upload form’s additional fields.

NGG Exclude File
(on/off) Whether the files added to the gallery have their Exclude property switched on. Excluded files are not displayed.

Files added this way are managed from Dashboard → Gallery → Manage Galleries, just like any other gallery file.

  2. Good afternoon, I’m designing a membership site. I want each subscriber to be able to create a gallery using Nextgen. Here are their roles:
    User1: 1 gallery, 1 upload
    User2:: 5 galleries, unlimited uploads
    User3:: 10 galleries, unlimited uploads
    User4:: unlimited galleries, unlimited uploads
    How would I set this up? I’m using ARMember for membership.
