Front-end file uploads for WordPress
Let visitors upload files from any page, post or sidebar widget — into your Media library, or straight to Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Amazon S3 or an FTP server.
What it does
A form on any page
One shortcode, or a Gutenberg block. Add your own fields, filter by size, extension or user role, and run several forms in the same post.
Files go where you need
The Media library, a NextGEN gallery, an FTP server or a cloud account. Large files upload in chunks, past the server’s own limit.
You see what arrives
A file browser and activity log in the dashboard, email notifications on upload, and a viewer your logged-in users can see too.
What it looks like
Set-up and reference
- Install the plugin with the WordPress auto-installer, or download the .zip file from wordpress.org and install it from the Plugins section of your Dashboard.Or copy the
wordpress_file_uploaddirectory into thewp-content/pluginsdirectory of your site yourself. - Activate the plugin from the Plugins section of your Dashboard.
- For an upload form, go to Dashboard / Settings / Iptanus File Upload and follow the instructions in Uploader Instances.

- Open the page in your browser and you will see the upload form, or the list of files.
- View what has arrived from the Uploaded Files item in the Dashboard menu.
- Change the upload directory, or any other setting, from the small edit button at the top-left corner of the upload form.It opens the plugin options in a new window. If nothing appears, allow pop-up windows for your site.

The plugin requires to have Javascript enabled in your browser. For Internet Explorer you also need to have Active-X enabled.

Hi,
there is a little ‘unbeauty’ in the code: the hover effect of the buttons. The hover effect is not set by the css pseudo-class :hover. You change the class ‘.file_input_button’ to ‘.file_input_button_hover’ by using javascript.
Maybe this is an issue for an upcoming update?

Hi Sebbe, unfortunately it is not so simple. By default HTML forms style Select button their own way and you cannot change it. So I used a trick. The select button you see is a “dummy” button which stays on top of the real select button but it is inactive. So, when you press on it, you actually press the real button beneath. This way you can invoke the dialog for selecting files and you can also style the select button as you want. The drawback of this solution is that the same happens with hovering. When you hover in the button, the real button’s hover is invoked and not the dummy button’s one. I had to use Javascript so that whenever the real button’s hover effect is active a new class (file_input_button_hover) is given to the dummy button, so that a pseudo hover effect can be generated.
It is a bit complicated, however I haven’t found a better workaround so far.

What can I add to shortcode to have the file browser only display files inside of specific target folders? This way a user can upload files in categories and then view them in categories.
I should also mention I have target folders being created by users through the uploader going through a typical uploads/%username%/NewFolder type arrangement.
Hi, if you want to categorize the uploaded files, you can use a dropdown field, where the user must select a category. This info is stored together with the file. Then you can setup a file viewer (in Pro version), where a user can view its files. You can add a column in the viewer to display the category of the file. Furthermore, you can add a filter box on top of the file viewer, so that the user can dynamically filter the list based on category.

Hi Nickolas,
Since I’m forcing, depending on visited page, files to be uploaded into uploads/%username%/NewFolder (replace NewFolder with whatever the category may be for that particular page), I am assuming the info is being stored together with the file already… So how can I setup the viewer to only show the user the “NewFolder” contents?

Is the NewFolder category specific to page? With the file viewer shortcode you can define to show files only from specific page.

Hi, actually it can be done easily with a hook. When a user exceeds the limit, the hook will reject the upload notifying accordingly. I can help you with the hook.
