WordPress File Upload 4.14.0

This is a cumulative announcement for versions 4.13.0, 4.13.1 and 4.14.0.

Version 4.14.0 is a very important one. It resolves a problem that appeared after version 4.12.2 where auto-updates of the Professional version no longer worked.

The problem was caused because WP-Updates, the 3rd party tool that the plugin used to deliver the updates stopped working. Users of the Professional version could not be notified about new updates through Plugins page in their Dashboard and could not update it automatically.

In this version a new auto-updater tool is introduced, relying on Iptanus Services Servers. So now Iptanus has full control of the auto-update process of the Professional version and can quickly resolve any problems that may appear again.

The Plugins page offering a new version of the plugin

Unfortunately all previous versions of the plugin still point to the old updater, which doesn’t work. For this reason, special instructions have been published on how to update to the latest version here.

After updating to the latest version everything will get back to normal and auto-updates will start working again.

Besides the new auto-updater, this version introduces a mechanism for restoring operation of a website in case it gets broken because of PHP errors in a plugin hook. Instructions can be found here.

Furthermore, version 4.13.0 introduced some very important new features related to the supported cloud services, Google Drive, Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive:

  • The plugin can create shareable links of files uploaded to Google Drive, Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive and can display these links in Uploaded Files Dashboard page and in front-end file viewer.
  • When an uploaded file is stored in a cloud service and gets deleted from the website, it will still be visible in the plugin’s front-end/back-end file viewers and Uploaded Files Dashboard page.

Detailed instructions about this new feature will be provided in a new article very shortly.
