Sunday, 6-November-2016. New version 3.9.5 of WordPress File Upload plugin has just been released.

This is an important update as it provides some nice feature improvements and bug fixes.

The first improvement relates to Dropbox uploads. So far, this feature could only work on 64bit web servers, due to restrictions imposed by Dropbox API. Thanks to Hanneke Hoogstrate it is now possible to work on 32bit web servers as well. The only restriction is that it is not possible to upload files larger than 2GB. This option is not active by default. To make Dropbox work on 32bit servers as well, the newly added environment variable Force Dropbox to Work for 32bit Servers has to be set to ‘true’.

Another important improvement has to do with the upload algorithm. On some occasions, when uploading many files at once, the plugin was opening more connections to the server than the browser could handle, which resulted in upload stalls. A new environment variable has been added, Max Concurrent Connections to Server, to control the maximum concurrent connections opened during the upload process, if necessary. Furthermore, cleaning of delayed connections has improved. These improvements have made the upload process more reliable and robust, even in very harsh conditions (many large files, slow connections with frequent interruptions).

Furthermore, the calculation of upload progress, which affects the progress bar indications, has improved. Two calculation modes are provided, determined by the environment variable Upload Progress Mode. The ‘incremental‘ mode (default) provides a smoother upload progress, while the ‘absolute‘ mode provides a more precise but less smooth one.

Finally, there are some minor bug corrections in AJAX back-end functions, kindly noticed again by Hanneke.

You can check more details in the Release Notes of the plugin’s support page.
